With the King

Strolling along the south shore with the king of Denmark
Breathing time with the water, with the bicycles on the boardwalk

Little scientists with buckets and shovels
Digging to China; digging until the sand falls back in and fills up

The king is wearing leather workboots
Not ideal but refusing to take them off for our walk

Drips of children's ecstasies we pass by
He trudges along at my side, steps silent but heavy
